Description: Brinker is in some way a leader and is guy who follows the rules

Symbolism:
I chose a Recruiter because Brinker tries to recruit Gene and Gene actually thinks about joining and Brinker seams to be convincing and but Gene ends up not doing it because he feels finny does not want him to.




















Analysis: Brinker is a leader to some of the Boys at Devon. "almost everyone liked Brinker" (Knowles 87).He also though just keep trying to give Gene a bad time asking him if he pushed Finny out of the Tree and hurt him on purpose. "I can see you have real influence around here. This big room all to yourself." (Knowles 87) He is trying to say that he might be glad that Finny got hurt because now he has a whole room to himself.

Theme Tie-In: I think the theme for Brinker is war. Because in war you need a leader and ther are rules. Like Brinker he is a leader that will follow the rules. And also in war it isn't plesant and it could get mean and hard on you. Like how Brinker is on Gene about accusing him of making Finny Fall and break his leg and he does not stop bothering him.

Finny

Name: Finny
Description: He is one of the main characters in the novel. He is 5'8" and 150 pounds.
Job: A student at Devon
Age: Near the begging of the story Finny is 16 years old and will be turning 17 that coming summer. Relationships: He is best friends with Gene.
Symbolism:


I think this Symbolizes Finny because Finny commits himself to sports and he does not give up on trying to join the war, because he asks everyone one possible if they will draft him into the war. And in Rocky he commits himself to training himself to be the best and never gives up.






Analysis: He is very athletic but he is not a smart person when it comes to school. Finny loves sports and he really wants to join the war but cannot because of his broken leg and he seems mad over it because he says "I'll hate it everywhere if I'm not in this war!"(Knowles 190). Another good trait he has in my opinion is that he is able to get away with almost everything, like Gene even thinks that Gene is finally get in trouble and he talks his way out of it. And Finny seams to be the good guy that is a truthful honest man that helps his friend make good decisions, shown in this quote " If Phineas had been sitting here in this pool of guilt, how would he of felt, what would he have done? He would have told me the truth." (Knowles 66)

Theme Tie-In: Finny is like a peacemaker because he always is making everything better around him. Like he make up the game blitz ball and everyone loves it and he starts the winter carnival. He is always doing fun stuff to help everyone out. And he forgives Gene if he did mean to make him fall off the tree but he does not want to even believe that Gene would do such a thing since he is such good friends with Gene. And Finny just seams to make everyone feel good about themselves and seems to get along with most people.
